Our Program
We aim to create a fun, safe and nurturing learning environment where students can explore their creativity while taking risks, building their confidence and being rewarded with satisfying outcomes, while developing real skills with a wide range of applications.
Our classes offer mixed programs that incorporate a wide variety of different mediums over an extended project that covers the term. The project may resolve in a series of artworks, or a major project that’s completed by the end of term. For example, we may spend a term exploring portraiture using acrylic paint, or a term creating three-dimensional sculptures using clay, and within the term may produce some preparatory artworks and side projects as we work towards completing a major work.
Drawing is always included as a foundational skill, and students that display an aptitude to particular mediums are supported to explore and build upon these skills.
Activities are created that are suitable for all ages, whether children are just starting out and building their fine motor and communication skills, or for more advanced students wanting to refine and develop their art making skills.
Contemporary and historical art is explored as we focus on different themes and mediums.
Science, maths, other STEM subjects, as well as humanities subjects such as history, are frequently incorporated into our content.
Older children may use artwork created in our classes towards visual art folios for high school entry submissions.
We facilitate the creation of artistic treasures that will grace your walls (and lives!) for years to come.
How it works
Students are to meet us at the J Block Art Room on their release from school at 3pm. Students attending OSHC are to come directly to art class and we will sign them in to OSHC after art class finishes at 4:30pm (please see OSHC for ECA permission form).
Please pack an extra snack for your child for an afternoon energy boost J (OSHC kids too!). During the first 10-15mins of class students will have time for a snack as everyone settles in.
Children are to be picked up from the Art Room at 4:30pm unless
otherwise specified: eg. permission to walk home, OSHC.
Bookings essential
Children cannot attend class if bookings are not confirmed and permissions signed etc. Unbooked children will be referred to school office for collection if we do not have parental contacts and permissions to follow up on.
OSHC
Extra Curricular Activity Form (ECA) must be completed and submitted with OSHC. Please contact OSCH for details.
Children come straight to art class and will be signed in to OSHC after class.
Snacks
Please pack an extra snack for the afternoon. Children will have time for a little snack as everyone arrives and the roll is marked.
Absences
Please notify absence by email (hello@kurilpakidsartacademy.com) or text 0435106012.
In cases of unexplained absences the WESS school office will be contacted to confirm absence and if the child attended school a call out will be made over the school announcement system. If the child does not arrive at class within a reasonable time parents/carers will be contacted to confirm the child’s whereabouts. Every reasonable effort will be made to locate the child on the school grounds, but if they have left the premises responsibility will be referred to the parents/carers.
Catch up Lessons
Missed lessons can be made up on other class days. Please contact us to arrange these and confirm dates. Refunds are not available for missed lessons except in exceptional circumstances.
Trial Lessons
Full term booking are preferred and prioritised, but trial lessons may be arranged if you would like to determine the suitability of the activity for your child. Please email hello@kurilpakidsartacademy.com to arrange a booking. In this case fees are slightly higher at $35/lesson.
Paint Shirts
Please supply a painting smock, apron or oversized t-shirt for when we are doing messy activities (paint, glue, clay, etc). Some aprons are available in class. We do our best to ensure that children are wearing protective clothing, but sometimes accidents happen!
Tip: In cases where acrylic paint does get on a uniform, soak the garment overnight and rub the surfaces together with detergent or soap to loosen the paint before washing in a regular cycle.
Behaviour
Children must be willing and able to engage with the activities in a positive and constructive manner. We support individual developmental pathways and work to facilitate positive engagement within flexible frameworks. We appreciate that everyone has differing learning needs and will work to meet these.
However, children that display deliberate and consistently disruptive or disrespectful behaviour that has a negative effect on other students and the teaching environment may not be able to attend class. We will always work to communicate with parents and carers if this is the case and work towards positive outcomes, but reserve the right to deny attendance if all avenues towards a positive outcome have been exhausted.
We will always do our best to address behavioural issues that arise out of neurodivergent conditions, trauma or any other issues with compassion and positive engagement and encourage parents and carers to disclose information as necessary to help us best meet your child’s needs. All such information is treated as confidential.
School closures due to weather events, health restrictions or other unforseen circumstances
If lessons are unable to be delivered due to school closures (for any reason) we will either offer classes at an alternative location, refund unused classes (less a small admin fee) or hold unused lessons in credit (according to circumstances).
